How to Rotate Objects in Project Zomboid
In Project Zomboid, most furniture can be rotated as long as it’s placed on the ground and you can interact with it (taking out items, moving, etc.).
They are tables, chairs, refrigerators, beds, large modern ovens, washing machines, and so on. And you can find most of them inside houses or garages.
However, there are some exceptions. You can’t rotate the cabinets, the shelves on the walls, or the toilet.
To rotate an object in Project Zomboid, stand next to it. Then left-click on the cabinet icon on the left side of your screen and select the third cabinet icon with two green arrows.
A light green square will appear around your cursor.
Next, move the cursor to the object you want to rotate. A pop-up will show up with the following:
- The object image
- Object name
- Encumbrance
- The tool can be used to interact with the object. Literally, rotating requires no tool.
- The “Can Rotate” text indicates that the object is rotatable.
You can hold the left mouse button and move the cursor to pre-rotate the object. After that, you can see a preview of the rotated object. When you’re good with the preview, release the left mouse button.
Another way to rotate the object is to press “R”. With each press, you’ll see a preview result like the first method above. When you’re satisfied, left-click and let your character do his (or her) job.
If the object displays in red, then you can’t rotate it due to 2 reasons:
- The object contains items inside it. You should take them out first.
- The object’s possible directions collide with other objects or walls. In this case, you should try other directions or move the object to other areas.
The best way to check whether an object is rotatable is to move the white square toward it. If there’s a “Can Rotate” text, you can rotate it.
You can only rotate an object that is on the ground, not one that is placed on it. For example, you can’t rotate a lamp or a TV separately without rotating the table it is on.
Rotating, combined with moving objects, can be used to create barriers to block zombies effectively. In fact, you can secure your base by placing and rotating objects in front of the main door.
The most common purpose of rotating is to decorate the house and increase storage capacity. Therefore, you should pay attention to this helpful feature.
That’s how to rotate objects in Project Zomboid!
