Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, has come out in full support of American gymnast Jordan Chiles after her controversial bronze medal win in the floor exercise final. The 23-year-old initially finished fifth in the final, but that was only when a major controversy blew up.

Chiles’ team filed an inquiry about her skills. This resulted in judges increasing her final score from 13.666 to 13.766, which made her climb from fifth to a medal-winning position. However, that win was shortly celebrated as Chiles faced a major backlash, including racist comments.

I am so sick of this. Gonna build something better for athletes.

Williams has always been an advocate for supporting athletes who have faced racist remarks. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has dealt with such issues more than most, further solidifying her status as one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

She has also built a team around her that supports other athletes facing similar challenges. As an American athlete, Chiles can expect strong support from Williams and her husband, who have been cheering for Team USA ever since the opening ceremony in late July.

Jordan Chiles set to lose bronze medal after major court ruling

Jordan Chiles may have to give back the bronze medal she won at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided on Saturday that the judges at the women’s floor exercise final wrongly accepted an inquiry that raised Chiles’ score, moving her into third place. CAS found that the appeal was submitted after the one-minute deadline and should not have been accepted.

According to CAS, Chiles should have received a score of 13.666, which would have placed her fifth, just outside the medal positions. However, CAS did not decide on the medal rankings or whether Chiles would keep her bronze medal.

When asked for a comment, a spokesperson for FIG, the organization that oversees gymnastics, said that they would soon release a statement on their website.

The 23-year-old mentioned after the event that she didn’t know her coaches had filed an appeal on her behalf. She has faced harsh criticism online, with some people accusing her of “stealing” the bronze from Ana Barbosu of Romania. Chiles acknowledged either the CAS case or the online backlash by posting broken heart emojis on her Instagram story.
