Coco Gauff wants mental focus like Simone Biles
While Coco Gauff is an inspiration for many, the 20-year-old also looks up to other athletes. When she was asked to build her perfect athlete, or the ultimate Olympian, the 2023 US Open champion highlighted the necessary aspects.
Gauff stated that speed, strength, mental focus, hand-eye coordination, adaptability, teamwork, and creativity were the most important traits needed to become a perfect athlete. The World No. 2 then picked the sports from which she would want these traits to perfect the craft.
For speed, Gauff chose the 100-meter track and field event. The American tennis ace said that she wants the strength of a weightlifter, the hand-eye coordination of a table tennis player, the adaptability of a triathlon athlete, the teamwork of artistic swimmers, and the creativity of rhythmic gymnasts.
For one of the most important traits, mental focus, Gauff pointed to artistic gymnasts who maintain their focus despite the crowd cheers and the limited space on the balance beam. She named none other than Simone Biles as the athlete to look up to in this regard.
